An IBAN tells you a bank account exists. It doesn't tell you who owns it. Vopify verifies account holder names in real time across SEPA, India, Indonesia, South Korea, and China (Alipay) — before your payment leaves your account.
What is IBAN verification?
IBAN verification — also called Verification of Payee (VoP) or bank account name matching — is the process of confirming that a bank account number (IBAN) is registered to the person or company you intend to pay. It is a critical fraud prevention step, particularly for businesses processing supplier payments, payroll, or customer refunds.

Why bank account verification matters
- Business Email Compromise (BEC) fraud often involves swapping legitimate account details for fraudulent ones on invoices. Payee verification catches this before payment.
- Misdirected payments caused by data entry errors are immediately flagged when the name doesn't match the account.
- EU regulation now mandates Verification of Payee for all SEPA credit transfers under the Instant Payments Regulation (IPR), effective October 2025.
