What is Confirmation of Payee (CoP)?
Confirmation of Payee is a UK account name checking service governed by Pay.UK. It lets the sending bank or payment service verify that the name provided by the payer matches the name held by the receiving bank for that sort code and account number. CoP has been mandatory for the UK's largest banks since 2020 and is now widely adopted across the UK banking system.
